Labyrinth
Music Theatre in Colourscape
for Voice, Percussion, Flute, Computer Processing
and Movement
"...an indefinite and perhaps infinite number of hexagonal
galleries, with vast air shafts between...a sphere whose exact centre
is any one of its hexagons and whose circumfrence is inaccessible."
Borges, The Library of Babel
There are only...
COLOUR...not the Colour of any object, but the Colour of
the Space itself...the Colour of the very air we breathe...
and...
SOUND...not a Sound from any place...is it the Sound of
the Colour?...No, we only imagined that...But?...
Then somewhere in this infinite Time and Space there is
another Sound...Is it some lost voice?...Some memory of a long past
event still echoing in the farthest reaches of the Labyrinth?...
Jo Shapland, Movement Artist, in 'Labyrinth'
LABYRINTH consists of three overlapping musics -
'Labyrinth Music', for Computer Processed Gongs; 'The Voice of the
Minotaur', for Computer Processed Voice; and 'Theseus Music', for
Computer Processed Flute.
The whole performance takes place in the labyrinth of
Colourscape.
