The relationship between colour and sound has a long history. During Colourscape Music Festivals, you can hear a range of music, see dance and mime, and move amongst the performers, who are occupying and responding to the same space as you.

We use Colourscape structures specially designed by the artists for music and other performances. There are a variety of spaces – some larger and lighter for big groups including dance, grand piano and even a small opera – some darker and more intense to bring greater depth to the music.

Often our musicians will use radio microphones so that they are free to move around Colourscape. The amplified music will also move around Colourscape with the help of hidden loudspeakers. These performances become a true journey of colour, space and music.

In every Colourscape Music Festival you can experience a variety of music including: improvisation; live electroacoustic music; a complete Balinese Gamelan; ethnic ensembles; contemporary music groups. We always aim to present the newest developments in music to bring a new experience to this unique listening space.

At every Colourscape Music festival we present a variety of performances each day. In a normal five-hour daily opening the music will move between different styles and ensembles; there will be quiet times to allow the appreciation of Colourscape without music. In a normal one-hour visit you will experience a good sample of the day’s events.

Our normal festival plan is to present public performances at weekends and educational workshops during the weekdays. During school holidays those workshops will be open to the public.

You, as the audience, can experiment with all this, listening to the sound in different parts of the structure. Children, not always welcome in a concert hall, are fully included. It is a unique performance space.
